Scudamore’s Punting Company first introduced pleasure punting to the city in the early 20th century.

Remaining true to Jack Scudamore’s original vision, they work to ensure that the River Cam can be enjoyed by all, offering traditional boating services to residents and visitors alike.

This 45-minute College Backs tour offers the ideal introduction to Cambridge’s long and eventful history. Discover how the city has evolved from mediaeval market town to world-class centre for education whilst enjoying spectacular views from the river.

This tour is the best way to showcase Cambridge. Your guide will have a passion for history and a talent for sharing that with you. From the Gothic splendour of King’s College Chapel to the classical elegance of the Wren Library, your guide will ensure that you don’t miss a thing.

Important Information

Tickets include a 45-minute chauffeured river tour of the famous Cambridge College Backs.

Upon purchase your tickets will be emailed to you and can then be used on a walk up basis to claim seats on the next available tour. Tickets are valid for 3 months from the date of purchase.

Tickets can be redeemed at one of two locations on the river. Scudamore’s have two pontoons in the city, located at Quayside and Mill Lane.

Open: 364 days a year, conditions permitting
Tours run daily, except Christmas Day.

Hours: 09:00am until dusk
Closing times reflect the changing seasons.

Tours depart every 15-30 minutes. Punts can seat up to 12 people and are dressed with cushions and blankets. They come equipped with additional blankets and umbrellas in case the weather changes.

Availability is usually best on weekdays and weekend mornings. On weekend and bank holiday afternoons tours are sometimes fully subscribed for up to 2 hours in advance. Where this occurs, they reserve you places on a tour for later in the day, leaving you free to explore Cambridge. It is recommend that you then return to the station 5 – 10 minutes before your scheduled tour time.

At least one adult is required with each reservation.
